Portland's Best Gutter Cleaning

Between going to work, doing household chores, keeping in touch with family and friends, and finding time to relax, there is a good chance getting your gutters cleaned isn’t at the top of your priority list (if it’s even on your list at all). Honestly, it is an easy task to forget, but it can also be a costly task to forget. More often than not, most people are under the impression that their gutters only need to be cleaned on a yearly basis. However, it is important to take in to consideration the type of climate one lives in. It is recommended for those in wetter climates that they get cleaned at least 2 times a year. If living in areas with a lot of trees in addition to the wet climate, gutters should be cleaned at least 3 times a year.

Gutters are designed to hold running water to transport it to the downspouts. When the running water gets stopped, the water also stops and puddles are formed. Gutters are not designed to hold this type of weight, add fallen debris in the gutters, and the weight will multiply and cause even more issues. These issues will end up costing more hard earned money out of your wallet than just having them cleaned on a semiannual basis.

The debris clogged in your gutters can cause multiple issues, especially in wet climates. When gutters and downspouts become clogged, water will become stagnant and provide perfect breeding grounds for pesky insects, such as mosquitoes. Not only will you have mosquitoes in your gutters, water and debris will continue to accumulate. As a result, the debris will add weight to your gutters, which they are not made to support. As the gutters become heavier, they will begin to sag and pull away from the house. The farther away from the house the gutters become, the areas where your gutters are mounted become increasingly susceptible to rot.

Gutter Cleaning Maintenance

The best way to prevent the previously stated issues is to have your gutters cleaned and checked either by a professional or by yourself. Regardless of how it gets done, your gutters should be checked and/or cleaned more than once a year if you live in a wet environment. Getting them cleaned on a semiannual basis will keep the cost of maintenance down because it will prevent the more serious issues from occurring. Being preventative, rather than acting once there is a problem, will definitely save you money in the long run. The regular cleaning will also help make your gutter system last much longer and work more efficiently.

The type of environment you live in definitely affects the amount of times your gutters require cleaning. It may be a good idea to have a professional gutter cleaner come out and take a look around at your surroundings to have him help you determine how often your gutters should be cleaned. You would much rather have him come as a precaution rather than in an emergency as your gutters are tearing away from your home. The preventative bill will be much cheaper than any repair bill, guaranteed.
